Happy New Year, Squidwards! I don't know about you, but Christmas 2013 for me was a great success. My veins were humming with creative spirit this year; I managed to hit gift-giving home runs for each of my immediate family members and my best friend. However, during all my constructing and wrapping and congratulating myself, I had no idea that the gold mine of all clarinet geekery was being harvested for me several miles away... This is what happens when you have a best friend who is WAY more creative than you will ever be... IT'S A REED WREATH! A WREEDTH!!! Currently the only one of its kind in existence and hopefully the first of many to come! Handmade from my own deceased reeds by photographer and craft extraordinaire, Brandi Cawood, Seriously, if I hadn't gotten it as a gift I would have paid some serious money to hang that thing in my studio.
The only downside (I think, as I literally bounce up and down with childish glee) will be finding a secure way to pack it without chipping any of the reeds...but I suppose that would just add to its already charming qualities. As always, send me your ideas for upcycling old reeds, or contact Brandi to see if she'll make you a personalized "wreedth' of your own!
